After the tour, there will be 15 minutes to hear a few words from Congressman Kelly about initiatives to draw manufacturers to PA and ensure there is a skilled workforce when the manufacturers come. In addition to Kelly and Walters, attendees will include Onex executives Eric Walters, Andrew Walters, and Michael Ducato; Bob Zaruta, NWIRC President; Petra Mitchell, Catalyst Connection; and others.
Onex, Inc. started its business in 1965 as a local stocking distributor of refractory products to the foundries in Erie, PA and surrounding areas. Since then, Onex has grown into a furnace service provider that includes combustion services, refractory linings, and shop fabrication for all heat intensive industries that plans to double its growth in the next 5 years. Onex employ’s roughly 43 employees to provide our customers unique and cost effective solutions. Most our work is done within a 4-5-hour radius of our regional office; however, we also have successfully done projects for various companies all over the United States. Onex had started partnering with the NWIRC in 2013 and has worked on many projects.
NWIRC is part of the national Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) network that leverages public and private revenue, and in many cases state support, to provide small and mid-sized manufacturers with the technology-based consultative services they need to thrive in today’s economy and create well-paying jobs. Services are delivered through a network of industry-led centers of excellence that employ industry experts to work directly with manufacturers. Onex, Inc. has seen direct benefits of the MEP Program through various projects and services, including the STEM Internship Program. An independent analysis conducted in 2016 concluded that over the past year, services provided by MEP centers nationwide empowered manufacturing clients to create and retain 86,602 full-time jobs. Those clients also realized $9.34 billion of increased revenue and $1.37 billion in cost savings, which enabled them to invest $3.51 billion in expansion and modern technologies, as results of their MEP engagements.
