On April 19th, 2017 US Congressman Mike Kelly visited the Onex, Inc. facility. Last month the President of Onex, Ashleigh Walters and the President of NWIRC, Bob Zaruta went to Capitol Hill Day to advocate for the Manufacturing Extension Program (MEP) and their regional centers. MEP is a nationwide network providing services to help small to medium-sized manufacturers. During this trip, Ashleigh had asked Congressman Kelly to come to Erie to tour the Onex plant and get a closer look at how the Northwest Industrial Resource Center (NWIRC) helps improve our company.
Congressman Kelly was raised in Butler, PA and after attending University of Notre Dame he moved back to Butler to work at Kelly-Chevrolet-Cadillac, Inc., the company founded by his father in the early 1950’s. In the mid-1990’s Kelly took over the business of the dealership and expanded its operations to Hyundai and KIA franchises, thus, his understanding of the difficulties at hand for private sector businesses. Before the tour started, Ashleigh Walters, gave an overview of the importance of manufacturing and how small to medium sized manufacturers play a key role in America’s growth. After the tour, refreshments and a few gifts for our guests to enjoy were available as well as an open discussion lead by US Congressman Kelly. The open discussion highlighted how those in the White House are working diligently to ensure American safety and prosperity and he asked to hear from the group of how he can help our companies thrive.
